Sonoma Coast & Willow Creek Trail Crews

The Sonoma Coast Trail Crew was started in 2006 in response to a great need for additional trail maintenance at Sonoma Coast SP.  Initial funding came from grants, which supplied volunteers with equipment needed to recontour trails, weed whack, remove poison oak and much more. The Willow Creek Trail Crew began as dedicated locals noticed some neglect of the more remote trails.

Tasks: The assignment for the day may be working to repair the Shell Beach steps, or cleaning up and ensuring the safety of the trails. The meeting location changes each month depending on the project. Read the Sonoma Coast Trail Crew duty statement for a complete description.

Meeting times: The Sonoma Coast Trail Crew meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9 AM, location TBA. The Willow Creek Trail Crew meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 9 AM, location TBA. Depending on the project, volunteers can expect to work a shift of up to 6 hours.

Training and requirements: New volunteers are required to attend one of the three General Orientation Sessions offered during the year, however trail crew volunteers can drop in to any work day and don’t have to wait to attend an orientation before beginning to volunteer. No formal training or previous experience is required. All new volunteers are required to complete and turn in a hard copy of the CA State Parks DPR 208 paperwork. Read our Volunteer Handbook for more information about becoming a volunteer.
