The Whale Watch Public Education Program was started in 1986 by Bea Brunn, as a response to the public’s growing concern and awareness of the fragile relationship with the dwindling population of remaining whales. To prepare for the upcoming Pacific Gray Whale migration season, the training includes information about their physiology, migration, breeding habits, and other interesting facts to discuss with the public. Docents are stationed at Bodega Head on weekends from January through May. The Whale Watch Volunteer Training is designed to support new California State Parks and Stewards volunteers in becoming active members in a growing movement of conservation science.
