From previous Climate Stewards Certification students:

“Cathy is so passionate about this subject! She did an incredible job communicating clearly through emails, always offered help and clarification during class or during office hours, had a lot of visuals during her presentations, and brought on so many guest speakers which elevated the course. I LOVED the one in person field trip I attended, wish I could have attended both.”

“Cathy let us have authentic conversations where I felt allowed to be my whole self.”

“Very willing to engage 1-on-1, always available and takes feedback. EXTREMELY knowledgeable in climate science.”

About Cathy Johnson:

I am an Environmental Scientist and a member of the Board of Directors at Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, my deep appreciation for the coast and redwoods is complemented by my certification as a UC Naturalist, which I achieved through SCR. I grew up in the Sierra Foothills, and now divide my time between Auburn and West Sonoma County. My academic background includes degrees in Biology, Biogeochemistry (soil and water), and Environmental Chemistry. Currently, I am employed as an Environmental Contaminants Specialist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. In this role, I conduct investigations into the fate and transport of chemicals (pesticides) in the environment, assessing their impacts on endangered species. This work is closely linked with habitat degradation and climate change. Additionally, I participate in several task forces, both locally and nationally, addressing issues related to climate sustainability and pollinator declines. My professional responsibilities take me across the state and occasionally the country, yet I always return to the Sonoma Coast.
