WHEN:

Monday, July 7, 2025

10:30 am - 12:00 pm

WHERE:

Goat Rock State Beach, Sonoma Coast
Highway 1

We will meet next to the trailhead sign on the north end of the parking lot.

Join Interpreter Kat to observe and identify the amazing adaptations that enable Harbor Seals to survive in their home in the cold Pacific waters of northern California. Kat will give an engaging short talk, lead an activity about seal adaptations, and then use binoculars (provided) for seal watching. While we discuss Harbor Seals, we will talk about how Marine Protected Areas (MPA) ensure the health and safety of these marvelous marine mammals.
This program is free of cost, but donations to support education in parks are welcome. Pre-registration is required. Please leave your animals at home.
Instructor: Kat is a California State Parks Interpreter I. Kat likes to tell her students that being an interpreter means that she helps to tell the stories of plants, animals, and people of these beautiful shared spaces! She has been with the parks since 2016 and is passionate about teaching K-12 students about ocean life.
Kat is trained in Marine Protected Area, Climate Change, PORTS Programming, and public interpretation. She can’t wait to show you how much we have in common with the beautiful and blubbery harbor seal!
