Minus Tide Tidepooling December

2024 Minus Tide Tidepooling December

WHEN:

Saturday, December 14, 2024

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

WHERE:

Shell Beach, Sonoma Coast

Before coming to the coast for this event, please note that storms, tides and ocean conditions can erode the beach and beach access. Visitors to the beach will need to descend and ascend ladder-like cable stairs that are mucky, wet and slippery. These conditions may not be suitable for very young children or persons with mobility or agility concerns. As always, beach and tide pool exploration may include slippery, rocky, wet conditions. Please wear appropriate sturdy footwear that can get wet. All visitors are responsible for their own safety.

If you’ve been wondering what sea levels will look like as the climate changes, head to the Sonoma Coast during a king tide. After the morning king tide (one of the highest tides of the year), there is a corresponding negative low tide revealing tide pools full of fascinating marine life. You will have an opportunity to observe tide pool creatures and explore the tide pools. Knowledgeable docents will help you to learn about this amazing ecosystem.
