Join Taylor “Taye” Bright for a flat, slow, gentle walk discovering mushrooms and fungi in Armstrong Redwoods. You will learn the basics of mushroom identification, fungi’s ecological roles in redwood ecosystems and much more. In addition to well known species such as Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) and the Red Belted Conk (Fomitopsis mounceae), we have found more uncommon species such as a special bright yellow waxy cap (Hygrocybe glutinipes var. rubra), and a blue variety of the parrot mushroom (Gliophorus psittacinus) on previous walks!

Be sure to layer up! Wear a warm coat and have gloves, a hat, a pad and pencil, and your phone or a camera to take photos. Taye will bring a couple 365nm UV flashlights in case we come across any fluorescent mushrooms or fungi… or animals!  (We have a millipede that fluoresces under black lights in Armstrong Redwoods!)
