Armstrong Redwoods Welcome Center

Welcome CenterThe Visitor Center Lizzie Armstrong Jones Welcome Center at Armstrong Redwoods SNR and Austin Creek SRA used to be the Ranger Station. In 2016, park staff and volunteer renovated the abandoned building so it could be a meeting place for tour groups and also a place to welcome visitors and provide information about the park. The center was fondly named the Lizzie Armstrong Jones Welcome Center to honor the contributions made by the daughter of Colonel Armstrong, who was responsible for realizing her father’s dream of preserving Armstrong Redwoods SNR into the future.

Tasks: This is a great opportunity to share information with people from all over the world, share your love of the redwoods, and meet new people. Volunteers provide visitors with park information and features. They direct them to the Visitor Center to enjoy the interpretive displays and to purchase nature related items to remember their visit to the park.

Meeting times: Volunteers staff the center as available from Fridays through Sunday.

Training and requirements: New volunteers do not need prior experience and will train with experienced volunteers until they feel comfortable staffing the welcome center on their own. Potential volunteers are required to attend one General Orientation. All new volunteers are required to complete and turn in a hard copy of the CA State Parks DPR 208 paperwork. Read our Volunteer Handbook for more information about becoming a volunteer.
