Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center

Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center VolunteersThe Visitor Center at Armstrong Redwoods SNR and Austin Creek SRA was started by volunteers John and Pauline Gilbert and funded by Stewards in 1986. In the beginning, this center was housed in a small room at the Ranger’s station. In 1990, volunteers saw their dream of a separate visitor center become a reality, and today sees thousands of park visitors each year.

Tasks: This is a great opportunity to share information with people from all over the world, share your love of the redwoods, and meet new people. Volunteers provide visitors with park information and sell interpretive merchandise. The proceeds from the merchandise benefit the work that Stewards does to support the park. Read the Armstrong Visitor Center duty statement for a complete description.

Meeting times: Volunteers staff the center year-round, seven days a week from 10 AM – 4 PM.

Training and requirements: New volunteers do not need prior sales experience and will train side-by-side with experienced volunteers until they feel comfortable staffing the visitor center on their own. Potential volunteers are required to attend one General Orientation. All new volunteers are required to complete and turn in a hard copy of the New Volunteer Onboarding Packet and Duty Statement of Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center Docent. Read our Volunteer Handbook.
