The field trip to Pond Farm Pottery is being brought to you by the CA State Parks Adventure Pass program. Get your free Adventure pass at parks.ca.gov/adventurepass and/or ask parents to sign up – it’s free and provides unlimited access to 54 California State Parks for the entire family for a full year (September to August following year).
On the creative field trip students have time to discover the magic of the place and the influence of the natural surroundings on Marguerite Wildenhain’s work. We provide guided explorations, prompts and materials to work on paper, make prints, and create designs on clay. We’d be happy to discuss our approach with teachers and will do what we can to include feedback in our planning.
We want to spark curiosity about this significant cultural site and newly minted National Historic Landmark, as well as the personal life story of Marguerite – one of exile, resilience, hard work, and self-sufficiency.
Marguerite Wildenhain was the first woman master potter to graduate from the Bauhaus. She emigrated to the United States in 1940 and lived and worked at Pond Farm for over 30 years teaching hundreds of her students about life, focus, crafts, and nature.
