Help promote, restore, and protect the natural and cultural resources of Russian River Area State Parks through interpretation, public stewardship, education programming, community science, and connecting visitors to their parks! In addition to serving in beautiful Western Sonoma County, volunteers who submit also receive:

  • An annual free Day Use Pass for all State Parks in the Sonoma-Mendocino Coast District for those who volunteer for 48 hours or more
  • An annual free Day Use Pass for all California State Parks for those who volunteer 200 hours or more

Due to a growing and continued partnership with State Parks, Stewards is proud to be able to offer these benefits to Stewards Volunteers. Once a volunteer, you can sign in here to record your hours.  Check out our Stewards Volunteer Programs!

You can view California’s state parks at parks.ca.gov.

Before You Become a Volunteer

State Park docents and volunteers are required to fill out official State Park paperwork in order to volunteer for one or more of the Volunteers In Parks programs.  If you are unable to download the Volunteer Packet, please call 707-869-9177 ext. 3 to have a packet mailed to you; or if you have any questions.

Download the New Volunteer Onboarding Packet! This document is your guide to becoming a volunteer.

The paperwork includes a duty statement, volunteer application, volunteer services agreement, and a visual media consent form. There is also a link to sign up on the database to record your hours.  Once your paperwork has been finalized, you are “covered” with the State’s insurance policy for injuries sustained during authorized volunteer service (as stated in the volunteer service agreement).

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer! Volunteers are vital to all of our parks. In the redwoods and along the Sonoma coast, volunteering provides individuals with fresh ideas, and energy, the opportunity to help support their local parks. All are welcome to volunteer! To become a volunteer, please complete the checklist linked directly above. We acknowledge the requirements are not all modest and hope you find the reward of a newfound avocation well worth it! We are always here to help. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] or [email protected] for support.
