Explore and Observe Tidepools After the King Tides 2023

2023 Explore and Observe Tidepools During the King Tides

WHEN:

Saturday, January 21, 2023

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

WHERE:

Shell Beach
Sonoma County
, CA 94923

Please wear waterproof boots or rainboots as we will be walking in the water. Bring a walking stick if needed.

Before coming to the coast for this event, please note that storms, tides and ocean conditions have eroded the beach and beach access. Visitors to the beach will need to be able to use their hands and feet to descend and ascend ladder-like cable stairs that may be unstable. These conditions may not be suitable for very young children or persons with mobility or agility concerns. As always, beach and tide pool exploration may include slippery, rocky, wet conditions. Please wear appropriate sturdy footwear. All visitors are responsible for their own safety.

If you’ve been wondering what sea levels will look like as the climate changes, head to the Sonoma Coast during a king tide. Join us for tide pool events on December 23, 2022 and January 21, 2023! After the king tide (the highest tide of the year), you will see a corresponding low tide. You will have a great time exploring the tide pools and observing tide pool creatures.

Our experienced tidepool docents will guide you on tidepooling, and discuss the impacts of the King Tides and how we can get involved.
