2nd Annual Youth Environmental "Artivist" Summit (Y.E.A.S.)

Unificando Conciencia
Willow Creek Environmental Campground, Sonoma Coast State Park
July 13-16, 2017

Once again, Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods and Raizes Collective are hosting a 4 day/3 night camping summit focused on promoting civic engagement, community building, environmental literacy, outdoor lifestyles, cultural diversity, social justice, and the arts. This year’s Y.E.A.S. will include an inspiring keynote address and array of action-oriented workshops that focus on today’s major contemporary political, social, and environmental issues. This year’s theme is Unificando Conciencia, or Unifying Consciousness. Participants will also construct a mandala sculpture built entirely out of recycled materials. A mandala is a spiral symbolizing healing powers and represents the universe, infinity, the past, and present. Through this project, students will physically bring new light and life to plastic trash, while metaphorically renewing their collective hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

Teens will walk away feeling empowered as young leaders, inspired to lobby for changes/policy they wish to see, and embrace powerful forms of communication (art, music, poetry, spoken word, etc.) as a means of self-expression. Similar to last year’s Y.E.A.S., we encourage first-time campers to apply, and welcome youth from all political, economic, and spiritual backgrounds. Y.E.A.S. is open to all high school freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors residing in Sonoma County, CA (must be recently turned 18 years or younger). Parents and teens can download our Youth Participant Application.

Adult chaperones and workshop leaders serve as links to future volunteer opportunities, offer logistical support, help expose youth to various careers, and demonstrate shared environmental and social values. If you would like to lead a workshop or attend as a chaperone, you can download our Workshop Presenter Application or our Chaperone Application.
